Ms  FORREST question  to ACTING LEADER of the GOVERNMENT in the LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL, Mrs HISCUTT

Regarding the upgrade of the Bass Highway bypass at Wynyard, what provisions have been made resulting from the installation of the York Street, Bass Highway junction roundabout to enable safe access to York Street from buses exiting the Wynyard Bus Lines depot on York Street, noting the limited visibility of vehicles exiting the Bass Highway onto York Street travelling in an easterly direction?

ANSWER

Mr Deputy President, I thank the member for her question.  The Department of State Growth has worked closely with Waratah-Wynyard Council to address community concerns about the number and safety of intersections along the Wynyard bypass.  The Department of State Growth has just commenced planning and development of the Calder Street/York Street roundabout upgrade.  A number of accesses, including the Wynyard Bus Lines depot on York Street, will need careful consideration in the design of the roundabout.  The project team will consult with the owners in coming weeks to determine access use and any requirements that need to be factored into the roundabout design.
