A recent TasWater account sent to a constituent of mine had a “Return to Sender if undelivered” address on the envelope for an address in Victoria. I note the postal address for TasWater on the website in a Hobart address.

1. Why does TasWater use a service outside Tasmania to handle undelivered mail?

Answer

The Tasmanian Government is a minority shareholder in TasWater, holding a 10 per cent interest with the remaining 90 per cent owned by Tasmania's 29 local councils.

TasWater is responsible for its own procurement policies and framework.

TasWater has advised that its preference is to work with local suppliers. However, at the time TasWater tendered for print provider services there were no Tasmanian based tenderers who could meet the scope of its requirements.
