Ms FORREST question to LEADER of the GOVERNMENT in the LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL, Mrs HISCUTT

(1) Will the Government consider other accommodation options, particularly for Ambulance Tasmania volunteers on King Island who currently do not have a suitable area due to the lack of space and privacy matters related to their current co-location and are required to use a portaloo at their base;

(2) If so, are any options currently being considered? If so, will the Government consider acquiring the old Hydro Tasmania building in Curry to provide a fit-for-purpose and suitable location to base Ambulance Tasmania and SES volunteers? Or, have any other options been considered by the Government?

ANSWER

(1) Ambulance Tasmania has explored utilised Hydro Tasmania buildings in Curry; however, advice received indicates these buildings are currently not for sale. Ambulance volunteers have full access to amenities including: tea and coffee facilities, a write-up area for report completion and paperwork, and to amenities at the King Island Hospital and Health Centre. A portaloo was also established at the police station for alternate use.

(2) The Department of Health is looking for an alternative property for Ambulance Tasmania.
