Midwife and Member for Murchison Ruth Forrest has reached out to the North-West community to reassure them that their fears are normal and that medical care is available.

"I absolutely understand that people are fearful and concerned," she said.

"It's normal to feel scared."

Ms Forrest said it was important for Coasters to be gracious with one another, and monitor their emotional responses.

"Some people get really angry, some people respond in ways that they normally wouldn't do," she said.

"What's really important is that people use the hotlines, ring triple 0 if they fear for their safety."

She admitted that she felt overwhelmed at times by the enormity of the situation and amount of people needing help.

"Some days I feel like I can't do anything other than put a few puzzle pieces in," she said.
