Ms FORREST question to MINISTER for SPORT, Mr DUIGAN
The King Island Golf & Bowling Club was promised a grant of $300,000 in order to lay a synthetic green. However, in recent months, the person at the club who has been trying to advance this project has been unable to get any response from the government as to where these funds are. The company responsible for installing the green has recently been working in Tasmania installing greens, and I’m led to believe were granted funding about the same time as the King Island Golf Club. Our concern is that this commitment may suffer the same fate as the North Launceston Football Club. Can you give an update as to the recent developments regarding this funding and how the grant is progressing?
ANSWER
Mr President. I’m just going to seek some advice.
My understanding is the issue has been around the budget cycle. The allocation was there in the May budget. That did not pass. It is subsequently back in the interim budget, which did pass downstairs. It was passed downstairs
Ms Forrest – No, they’re not here yet.
Mr DUIGAN – And they should expect to see their funding in a timely fashion post the budget passing.
