Ms FORREST question to LEADER of the GOVERNMENT in the LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL, Dr GOODWIN

With the recent announcement of the resignation of the secretary of the Department of Education:

(1)  What process will the Government utilise in its quest to appoint a suitably qualified, experienced, visionary individual to this important position, capable of effectively leading and managing the transformation of the Tasmanian education sector?

(2)  How will members of the selection and/or interview panel that will make a recommendation to the minister for this appointment be selected to ensure this outcome?

ANSWER

Mr President, I thank the honourable member for Murchison for her question.

(1)  The Government will use the standard process for appointing a new head of agency to select the next secretary for the Department of Education, including advertising the vacancy nationally.

(2)  The selection process will be led by the Head of the State Service.  He will ask appropriate representatives of the education community and the public sector to join him on the panel.
