Ms FORREST question to ACTING LEADER of the GOVERNMENT in the LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

Madam Acting President, if the Government, particularly the Treasurer, was so appalled by the alleged release of committee documents and disclosure of confidential committee deliberations from the Parliamentary Standing Committee of Public Accounts, why has the Treasurer not put a motion to the House of Assembly along the lines of the motion placed on the Legislative Council Notice Paper, that being -

(1)  that the disclosure of confidential deliberations of the Public Accounts Committee to a journalist and relating to the issuing of a summons to the Treasurer of Tasmania, and the subsequent publication by the ABC prior to the information being released by the committee be referred to the Committee of Privileges?

ANSWER

Madam Acting President, I thank the member for Murchison for her question.  The Government believes the Public Accounts Committee should take responsibility for progressing this matter.  I also note that the member for Windermere has already tabled motions relating to this matter.
