Ms FORREST question to MINISTER for WOMEN AND THE PREVENTION OF FAMILY VIOLENCE, Ms PALMER

Recently, I noted in this place a report about intimate partner violence amongst young people and children and my question to the minister is whether she will consider developing a dedicated intimate partner violence action plan specifically for children and young people.

ANSWER

Mr President, we will soon be starting to look at the next iteration of our state's family and violence action plan and that particular matter would need to be considered within the context of that plan. I know that the report that came back from Carmel Hobbs, which was presented in this place, was certainly compelling and, in my mind, the younger we can be reaching into families' and young people's lives, the better chance we have of ensuring we do not see generation after generation of abuse and family violence. That is something that would certainly be considered as we move into the next iteration of that action.

Ms Forrest - The question was: will there be a dedicated action plan for children and young people.

Ms PALMER - What I would say is that as we move into the next action plan in this space, that is something I could take into consideration. Whether it fitted inside that plan, whether it needed a stand alone plan, that is certainly something we would look at.
