Ms FORREST question to MINISTER for WOMEN, Ms PALMER

I congratulate and thank the Premier for giving this portfolio back to our colleague in this House. I know she has a passion for it. Minister, will you ensure that all legislation has a gender lens put across it, where there is clearly, and sometimes there is clearly no obvious gender impact, but there is in many. Will you ensure that a gender lens is put across all legislation, where it is relevant?

ANSWER

Mr President, I thank the member for Murchison for my first question back in this portfolio that I do care deeply about, and I thank you for the question.

From an advocacy point of view, I see that very much as my role, whether it be across departments, or in my capacity as a minister around the Cabinet table. It is my expectation across a number of my portfolios, whether it be in the disability space or in the space of women, I will always be very strongly advocating that that consideration is given. We know that until we have a true gender balance right across our communities, we know that is when we are creating safe environments for women and girls.
