Ms FORREST question to MINISTER for SMALL BUSINESS, Mr DUIGAN

With regard to the announcement by Saputo Dairy Australia with regard to the review of the King Island dairy facility, is the minister aware of the possible flow-on impact to many small businesses, including tourism small businesses on King Island, if Saputo was to close the King Island operation?

ANSWER

Mr DUIGAN - Mr President, as referenced in the question from the member, the owner of the business is currently undertaking a review. It would be premature for the Government to be wading in with offers of support at this stage. We will take a keen interest in the outcome of that review. If any support is subsequently required we could look at that at that time. Whether that exists within the small business portfolio or elsewhere, I am unsure at this stage.
