Ms FORREST question to LEADER of the GOVERNMENT in the LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL, Mrs HISCUTT

With regard to Sustainable Timber Tasmania (STT):

1. What has the average (not exact) price received by Sustainable Timber Tasmania (per cubic metre or per tonne, whichever unit is more appropriate for the given category of timber) for each of the following categories of native timber as they appear in STT’s Annual Reports per year for the past 5 years:

a. High quality sawlog category;

b. The average price received for each of the sub-categories of:

i. Appearance grade sawlog (Cat 1 & 3);
ii. Construction grade sawlog (Cat 1 & 3); and
iii. Sliced veneer grade.

2. What has the average (not exact) price received by Sustainable Timber Tasmania (per cubic metre or per tonne, whichever unit is more appropriate for the given category of timber), received for the corresponding reported quantity sold as recorded in STT’s Annual Reports, for each of the following categories of native timber for each of the past five years:

a. Sawlog (Cat 2 & 8);

b. Posts, poles and piles;

c. Export peeler log;

d. Domestic peeler billets;

e. Pulpwood;

f. Firewood;

g. Other products (e.g., bark, sawdust); and

h. Special species timber and craftwood?

Answer:

1. Sustainable Timber Tasmania’s Annual Reports (for the past five years) publish wood production figures for native forest, special species timbers and hardwood and softwood plantations. These figures are commonly documented in the ‘Snapshot’ section of the report, located at the very back of the document. These figures include production volumes of high-quality sawlog.

Sustainable Timber Tasmania does not hold the information (averages) which has been requested, as all customer contracts contain individual pricing information. The information contained in customer contracts is considered commercial in confidence between Sustainable Timber Tasmania and its customers.

2. Sustainable Timber Tasmania’s Annual Reports (for the past five years) publish wood production figures for native forest, special species timbers and hardwood and softwood plantations.
