Legislative Council, Thursday 28 September 2023

Ms FORREST question to LEADER of the GOVERNMENT in the LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL, Mrs HISCUTT

With regard to the Precinct Plan for Macquarie Point that will be provided to the Australian Government, reportedly in October 2023.

1. Will the Government make a copy of this Plan publicly available; and
a. If so, when will the Plan be made public.

ANSWER:

I thank the member for Murchison for the question.

As the Member notes, the development of a refreshed Precinct Plan was a condition of the Australian Government’s investment into the Urban Renewal of Macquarie Point.

The Macquarie Point Development Corporation is currently working on the development of that plan, which the Tasmanian Government has asked the Board to provide to the Premier, in his capacity as the Minister for State Development, Trade and the Antarctic, in draft by 1 October 2023. A copy of the Direction is available on the Corporation’s website (macpoint.com/reports)

The Government intends to publicly release a draft Precinct Plan in October 2023.

This consultation for the Precinct Plan included a survey on the Mac Point website that encouraged feedback on what the precinct should look and feel like, what types of activities it could support and encourage, and what opportunities it could unlock.

Written submissions will be published on the Mac Point website.
